MUMS MAKE PORN REVIEW

MUMS MAKE PORN REVIEW

Channel 4’s first episode of MUMS MAKE PORN investigates the world of porn and how easily accessible it is to anyone. It is revealed that a third of internet traffic is pornography, the majority of this being hard-core.

A group of five mums set out to make their own film that counters the porn they describe as ‘male orientated’ and violent. Their aim is to make a more acceptable version that is healthier and more realistic thus suitable for younger generations to see.

MUMS MAKE PORN

The five mums Sarah-Louise, Anita, Emma, Sarah and Jane meet at Emma’s house for a seemingly innocent afternoon tea whilst searching the internet for porn videos. The mums are all shocked at the nature of the content they see as they witness footage that is predominantly ‘male orientated’ and controlling towards women.

All the mums are concerned about how easily accessible violent porn is and how this could impact young people’s relationship with sex. Throughout the episode it is clear that all the mums have different views upon porn - for example Anita is completely open about her relationship with porn and regularly watches different kinds. Whilst Jane is more reserved and is a devout Christian and feminist who believes porn to be ‘dangerous to the culture of women’ and condemns much of the content in porn.

The attitudes of the women become more prominent when they observe a porn film being made. The most interesting part of this episode was actually one of the least graphic moments where we learn about a male porn star. Whilst Emma watches Sam and Zara shoot porn she discovers how Sam made it into the industry unveiling his problems with sex addiction and lack of sex education.

It was also particularly interesting hearing teenager’s different views on sex and how porn has impacted their personal experiences. Hearing the different experiences of young people truly highlighted the prominent issues associated with pornography.

Later we watched the more cringe-worthy viewing of Sarah-Louise watching a hard-core porn shoot. The mum struggled with the footage and was even sick after watching a cum scene. Meanwhile laidback Anita seemed to be the only mum questioning the reality of making a porn film. She asked the question we were all thinking, can these mums really produce a porn film? Especially when mums like Sarah-Louise and Jane feel sick at the sight of ‘bodily fluids.’

By the end of the episode it wasn’t particularly clear what the programme set out to do and whether the mums will be able to produce their own film.
