Interview with BRITANNIA star AARON PIERRE, who appears as Antonius. He discusses his knowledge of the Romans, his series audition and the upcoming series Krypton.
Britannia is a period drama, and is set in AD 43. It follows ancient Rome’s conquest of the Celts in the British Isles. The tribes must put rivalries aside and work together to fight of the invasion.
Pierre describes his character Antonius as having personal demons. “He is a Roman Centurion and has dedicated his life to Aulus Plautius and the Legion. He appears steadfast and secure, however internally there is a merciless storm.”
The actor says Britannia will entertain you. “The show is a whirlwind of everything I love about stories. It’s a crazy, addictive and unmissable trip.”
The debut series is currently appearing every Thursday on Sky Atlantic at 21:00. It was created by Jez Butterworth, Tom Butterworth and James Richardson – with actors including David Morrissey, Kelly Reily and Nikolas Lie Kaas also in the large cast.
Aaron says his Britannia journey started last year, “My involvement began in March 2016. I had a meeting with Gary Davy (Casting Director). I was in the audition for about ten minutes, and I remember leaving thinking; ‘I really have no idea how that went’.”
“A few weeks past and I got a call saying I had the offer for Antonius. I was ecstatic!”
He was quick to do some background research. “I prepared by reading about the history of Britain and the Roman army. I also read tons of myths. These things hugely assisted in discovering who Antonius is!”
Meanwhile it was recently announced that Pierre will star in the upcoming Superhero series Krypton, which will visit Superman’s Grandfather (Seg-El).
“Krypton is set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet. We immerse ourselves in the Kryptonian society and explore where the S symbol gets its meaning. We discover how it grows into what we all love.”
“We absolutely can’t wait to share the Krypton story with everyone! It premiers in the US on SYFY from 21 March 2018.” There’s no news on the UK broadcast date, but we hope this changes soon.
