TOP OF THE POPS BBC ONE 2015

1. It first broadcast live from Dickinson Road in Manchester. Presented by Jimmy Savile in 1964, the artists included Cliff Richard, Dusty Springfield and Rolling Stones amongst others, whilst The Beatles' tune I Wanna Hold Your Hand was the first TOTP number one.

2. In 1988, All About Eve was left without a cue for the backing track. A crew member had tripped over the power switch, meaning the singer just sat in silence whilst the song played on TV.

3. Travis had a custard pie fight live on the show. It brought carnage to the stage in 2001 during their version of Sing. Watch the funny events below.

4. Cliff Richard has appeared on TOTP the most times. In total, he visited the show almost 160 times.

5. Fat Les brought the most people to perform with. Over seventy people crammed onto the stage, to sing Jerusalem.

6. In total, TOTP broadcast over 120 countries, before hitting the close button on episode 2204. It has since provided one-off Christmas specials and Top of the Pops 2 continued to survive on BBC Two.
